MATARON A PEDRO is the untold story of Pedro Albizu Campos.
In the 1930s, farmers turned to a young Black Harvard educated lawyer, to fight for them, despite a political machine in Washington determined to silence them. What happens next will forever alter the course of a colonized island.
Pedeo was the first Black Puerto Rican to graduate from Harvard Law School. He could have stayed. He chose to return. As president of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party, he organized sugar cane workers, challenged colonial law in its own courts, and refused to accept that his island was anyone’s property. The U.S. government called him a terrorist. His people called him El Maestro.
