A high-speed shootout and a series of unexplained murders greet 35-year-old Dr. Brad Einstein Pope upon his arrival in Asheville, NC. The psychologist soon realizes he’s ensnared in a dangerous web of deep-woods survivalists, calling themselves the United Survivalist Army (The Real U.S.A.), preparing for Armageddon in the remote mountains of Western North Carolina. The preppers’ battle cry, “Prepare to Survive or Die,” targets the “zombies”— unprepared citizens like Pope. The doomsayer-preppers believe the zombies will roam the streets and plunder their carefully hidden cache of supplies when the economy collapses, the electrical grid fails, and apocalyptic weather threatens to wipe people off the map. To survive, Pope is forced to succumb to the same kick-ass, pit-bull tactics of his abusive, alcoholic father against the homegrown militant terrorists. But first, he must win an inner battle with his tortured past to find the line between his integrity and his own survival.
